Today began with a lecture to all schools about a Chinese folk-tale which told the story of a frog and its lost tadpoles. First, we were shown a video animation in Mandarin and then it was acted out as a role-play by the Chinese students.

Thursday began with another 5am start. We said our goodbyes to the teachers from Changzhou Senior High School and left them with some keepsakes of Glossop. Ollie met us at the train station and said his final goodbyes before we awaited the bullet train. Very kindly, he had bought Mr Redfern and Miss Cox a gift which was a beautifully decorated soup/rice bowl in a gift box for any future meals where they may wish to recount the tastes of sticky rice, palate cleansing soup or Chinese noodles back at home!

‘All good things must come to an end’ and, unfortunately, even our amazing and once in a life-time China trip. Saturday: our last day. We can’t actually believe how quickly this trip has gone; it seemed like only yesterday we were on the flight out to Dubai and then Beijing and now, it’s the last day. However, yet again, another incredible day was planned to end this unforgettable trip!

After minimal sleep, our wakeup call came at 3:00am. We checked out of the hotel and boarded the coach with Linda for the final time. For the first time ever, the streets of Beijing were deadly silent… the cars, mopeds, bikes and scooters were resting at home with their owners.
