SPH pupils have been getting stuck in to their RE project this week. They've been learning all about Jewish practices and festivals, building synagogues, hannukah, dreidels, and cooking full kosher meals! Even Miss Egan couldn't resist having a go at making traditional Jewish challah bread.

We can't wait to see more projects over the next two weeks!

This week the country’s attention turned to wellbeing as nationally we acknowledged Mental Health Awareness Week https://www.mentalhealth.org.uk/…/mental-health-awareness-w… This year’s theme is kindness. I’m sure you’d agree, what our world needs now more than anything is kindness to others. At the start of the week, one of our Year 7 Mental Health Ambassadors published some guidance and support that we made available on social media. I hope that this was of use to you and I want to personally thank Harriet Kinnersley for her hard work and thoughtfulness in creating this.

As previously communicated, all pupils and parents/carers have access to our online counselling service, 365 days of the year up to 10pm. There is a multitude of resources and blogs to read from, alongside 1-2-1 support. You can contact them on:

Pupils: www.kooth.com

Parents/Carers: www.qwell.io

Don’t forget the newly launched emotional health and wellbeing support from Derbyshire County Council. These resources can be found at https://derbyandderbyshireemotionalhealthandwellbeing.uk/

Over the long weekend, think about what you could do to be kind. Could you phone someone you’ve not spoken to for a long time? Could you write to someone to say hello, how are you? Maybe you could make breakfast in bed for your parent/carer, children – this one is for you especially!

Remember, kindness is not just something you give to others, you also need to be kind to yourself.

Take care

Mr Redfern

This week Derbyshire County Council and Derby City have launched a new website for emotional health and wellbeing. This can be found by visiting: https://derbyandderbyshireemotionalhealthandwellbeing.uk/
The website will be updated regularly and contains the details of many organisations that are available to help families at this time.
The toolkit has been designed collaboratively by professionals who work across Derby & Derbyshire to help plan and deliver care and support for people who are feeling stressed, anxious or depressed, or just want to feel happier.
The toolkit is designed for professionals, members of the public, children and young people who wish to access local services or just require further information on the services that are available to them.

As always, please make use of the support out there should you need it, or suggest it to a family member or friend who you think needs support at this time.
This provision compliments the many other sources of support we have already covered and that are listed on our website.

Technology Challenge 2020

The event took place on Thursday 5th March at Glossopdale school. SPH had two teams of 4 pupils from the Y9 BTEC Engineering class. The groups worked really well in completing a complex design and make challenge set by the rotary club.
The pupils were up against other teams from Glossopdale school. They had to produce a portfolio and a working model and make sure that they adhered to the rules set out in the brief by the rotary club. There were 7 teams in total and one of the SPH teams won the competition and shared joint first place. They are now the proud owners of a trophy and the Rotary club of Glossop will be coming into school to present the winning team with a prize.
The rotary club chairman and members of the committee commented on how well the pupils applied themselves to the task and said they were a credit to their schools.
A HUGE well done to all the students that took part!
