Welcome from the Headteacher
At St. Philip Howard Catholic School we aim to achieve the best from our students in everything they do.
I am delighted to welcome you to our website and I hope that it provides you with a flavour of life at St Philip Howard Catholic Voluntary Academy. Through a three – way partnership between home, school and parish we aim to work together to ensure our children achieve their potential. We believe that a happy child is a fulfilled child and therefore our strong pastoral system is of key importance to us. Our Catholic faith underpins everything that we do and ensures that our pupils are well rounded, confident young people with increasingly high aspirations. We are on an exciting journey at SPH and we firmly believe that by working together all our pupils will have a bright future ahead.
Together on the Journey
WHAT WE BELIEVE
Meet the Challenge, make the progress and live the Gospel.
Our Academy is a community where we strive to:
- Ensure that faith and worship is lived, taught and celebrated
- Provide a curriculum that enables all to experience the fullness of life
- Be a witness to Christ as we work with our parishes and the wider community
- Value and celebrate the achievements of all
- Communicate effectively and work in partnership with each other
- Support all our Academy community as we journey together
- Commit to safeguarding and promote the welfare of Children and Young People
Our Catholic Ethos
Our mission is to be a Catholic Academy where every individual is highly valued and where care and concern for others are central to our work. All our pupils are expected to achieve their potential and become equipped for adult life able to make a full contribution to society.
At SPH everything we do is guided by Gospel values of love, forgiveness, reconciliation justice, faith, integrity, humility, service, peace, hope and prayer. The Academy Mission Statement asks us to live by these values whilst rising to the challenge and achieving progress in what we do. Each day begins with prayer and there is a Collective Act of Worship each day that takes place during the form time or in a formal assembly which is led by members of staff, tutor groups, our chaplaincy groups or the student council.
Through our Chaplaincy provision, we offer children the opportunity to grow as a ‘whole person’. We have started to introduce retreat experiences for specific year groups, using The Marist Centre (Chorlton) and Savio House (Cheshire) as opportunities to pray, reflect and build community together. We engage in fundraising events for a variety of charities throughout the year. We have our own ‘gratitude club’ supporting the poor and needy in our local community and have links with our local parishes and clergy. During Advent we celebrated a traditional and much acclaimed Carol Service, along with a similar event last year during Lent – a sign of our commitment and desire to ensure that our faith is celebrated for all to see.
Living the Gospel
At SPH everything we do is guided by Gospel values of love, forgiveness, reconciliation justice, faith, integrity, humility, service, peace, hope and prayer.
At St. Philip Howard, we see to it that the next generation of adults are raised to become high achievers. All our pupils are expected to achieve their potential and become equipped for adult life, able to make a full contribution to society.
Offering our multi-gym and other facilities to the local area, it’s a pleasure to serve our community. We also have our own ‘Gratitude Club’ helping support the poor and needy in our local community and have links with our local parishes and clergy.
St. Philip Howard’s staff and teachers are dedicated to pupils achieving their greatest potential.
Keeping Our Students Safe
At St. Philip Howard we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of Children and Young People. As a Catholic Academy, every individual is highly valued and where care and concern for others is central to everything that we do.
Passionate, hard-working and a credit to our school, the governors are a backbone of progress.
