19th July 2018
As we come to the end of another busy year at SPH, I would like to take the time to thank you all for your continued support. Our school has improved considerably since it became an Academy and both recent inspections and the fact we are oversubscribed in Year 7 for another year is testimony to this.
As always, I remain committed to the continued improvement of teaching and learning. Science and Maths are a particular focus and there will be regular updates in the new academic year on these areas in particular. However, please be assured that much work has taken place already to address these priority areas. At SPH we are committed to providing opportunities for our students which has meant that this year they have had the chance to visit Poland over the Easter holidays. We also have 12 students currently on a once in a lifetime trip to China which you can read about on our China Blog page on the website.
Recently we had our Diocesan Canonical Inspection which is extremely important to us as a Catholic School. We are delighted with the outcome of the inspection as St Philip Howard Catholic Voluntary Academy has been judged to be a “Good Catholic School”. The Inspectors recognised the hard work that has taken place since we became an Academy.
“The overall effectiveness of the school is good. The headteacher is an inspirational leader and the strong leadership shown by the senior team has galvanised the school community and taken them on a journey of reflection and development. The headteacher’s passion and drive has led to an overwhelmingly positive sense of community and care within the school. She has been ably supported by effective governors at the school, who set challenging expectations.” – DCI, 2018
As always the pupils did us proud and the Inspection team recognised “pupil behaviour is a strength of the school”. Please take the time to read the full report which can be found on our website www.sph.academy.
This academic year has been a year of Inspections and all reports state that we are well on the journey to providing the best possible outcomes for all our children. Our Year 11 worked extremely hard in preparation for their GCSEs and we are hopeful that in August when the results are released they will get their reward.
