Head Teacher Welcome letter September 2017

September 2017

Dear Parent/Carers,

We are delighted to welcome both new and returning students and staff back to St Philip Howard, after what was hopefully a restful summer. Once again the ‘class of 2017’ did the school proud, achieving some great results in what, I am sure you are aware, has certainly been a turbulent time in Education.

We are pleased to announce that 62% of our students achieved a grade 4-9 in their GCSE’s. This means that for the fourth consecutive year 60% or more of students have achieved the higher levels in both English and Maths which is an outstanding achievement. This consistency in excellent outcomes, along with the recent introduction of new subjects such as Engineering and Performing Arts, makes it a very exciting time to be a student at St Philip Howard.

During the summer we have once again made improvements to the school site. The £500,000 Technology block is now complete and both Mrs Jeacock and Mr Greenwood are enjoying teaching their classes in this modern, spacious environment. We have created a Drama and Performing Arts classroom to facilitate the number of students now having the opportunity to showcase their skills in these subjects. The Computer Science area has been revamped and both pupils and our new Head of Computer Science, Mr Bailey, are pleased with the outcome. Finally the decorating and refurbishment programme has continued and our classrooms are welcoming effective learning environments.

The new staff that we have appointed are settling in well and there is certainly a renewed energy around the school. I hope that you and your children will be pleased with the teaching and learning now taking place at St Philip Howard. This will continue to be a priority so as to enable us to secure the best possible outcomes for your child.

We are currently trialling a new homework system using the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). Full details of this will be sent out to you shortly, the new system engages both Parents and students and we look forward to feedback on the system.

Finally I would like to thank you for your support. The pupils have started the new academic year looking extremely smart and with a positive attitude to their learning. We are all looking forward to another successful year at St Philip Howard.

Best Wishes

L Morris
