Headteachers update letter

Friday 25th September 2015

Dear Parents/Carers,

RE: Headteacher’s Update

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support over the last few weeks. Our students are arriving looking extremely smart in their new school uniform and we have received several positive comments from the local community. This is testimony to the partnership between home and school. We are working hard to improve areas that have been identified by OFSTED and so I will be providing you with regular updates about our progress to date.

At St Philip Howard, communication between school and home is extremely important to us so if you have any concerns regarding your child then please contact school as soon as possible. I would ask that you contact the following member of staff:

  • For matters relating to your child’s progress in a specific subject – Subject teacher/Head of Department
  • For pastoral concerns – Form Tutor/Head of Year

Please note that the subject teacher and form tutor are your first port of call.

Our website is currently undergoing revision and so please bear with us whilst we carry out this work. Hopefully, you will notice the improvements in the next few weeks.

We have introduced a lunch time rota for students to ensure that lunch time is an enjoyable experience for all. The rota will change termly and so during the autumn term will be as

Year 7 – 12.15
Year 10 – 12.25
Year 8 – 12.30
Year 9 – 12.35
Year 11 – immediate entrance to the dining room

Please be advised that these are only approximate timings and this week all students have gained access to the dining room earlier. In due course we will be speaking to the students about the dining experience and what improvements they would like to see happen.

Finally, In order to ensure the safety of all pupils in our care we have made the decision to provide one entry and exit point for the students which is via St Mary’s Road. As mentioned at the beginning of term, parents and visitors please report to the Visitor’s Reception via Sunlaws Street. We are currently awaiting new gates to be fitted and once this happens the gates will remain open for you to immediately park in the spaces provided and report to Reception. In the meantime, I thank you for your patience.

If you wish to speak to me regarding a school matter then please contact Miss Sarah Spencer on 01457 853611 or email sspencer@sph.academy to arrange an appointment at the Headteacher’s surgery.

Once again, I thank you for your continued support and I have attached a copy of important dates in the school calendar to date.

Yours sincerely,

L Morris
